about the one behind mama's joy

Peace and many blessings! My name is Katlyn Lewis. As a passionate birth doula trained by the National Black Doulas Association and herbalist, I empower women on their journey to motherhood. Not just to motherhood, but also through motherhood.

A part of Mama's Joy is all about encouraging and educating mothers and moms-to-be to embark on a journey of self-awareness of mental health and well-being through self-care. We all need to remember that we deserve joy, and to be who we are alongside being a parent or caregiver.

Beyond my profession, I find immense joy in homeschooling my children and supporting my family as a devoted wife. My faith in the Most High guides me every day. As I have been guided, I have grown a deep interest in natural living, hence why in 2022 I began my journey of studying plants and developed a love for herbalism. I specifically deeply study African American Herbalism, which takes a deep dive into the genetic make up of the diaspora and how different ailments that we encounter and fight through can be cured and managed by Yah's gift of plants.

I hope for Mama’s Joy to become not only a safe resource for healing and  families bringing in new lives but a community where we can lift one another and encourage each other to practice grace, mindfulness and self-care without the “mommy guilt”.

Here, you will find education on family herbal remedies, lactation support, prenatal, labor, and postnatal topics, as well as very real topics that mamas go through, such as Postpartum depression, PTSD, Suicide Prevention, and other possible resources for those who are in need.

Thanks for stopping by, and hey you're doing great keep it up mama. Peace.
